John and his wife resided in Goodworth where they had four children baptized between 1584 and 1589. Sometime prior to 1609 they moved to Wherwell. He was a cloth maker in Wherwell, Hampshire, England. His will was written 24 August 1609, theinventory was taken 18 September 1609, and it was proved in 1610.

The Newton Genealogy implies that Richard Newton may be the Uncle of Sir Isaac Newton of England. The following posting seems to negate that idea. "Sir Isaac Neton's uncle, Richard Newton was baptised at Colsterworth on 9 April 1609; he wasburied there on 23 June 1665; this Richard Newton married 1st, Alice ____ who was buried at Colsterworth 20 September 1642.... (additional text omitted) Sir Isaac Newton's uncle Richard Newton did not leave England - he is buried there atColsterworth." Lineage Richard Newton of Co. Suffolk whobelonged to a Yorkshire family of that name previously settled in Haddington, and traditionally connected with the Newtons of Charlton Baronets, settled in Sudbury, Mass in 1638 ..."
